Terms of Service
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account, placing a listing, placing a buy order, making a deposit, withdrawing funds, or otherwise using any part of the SkinBox website, API, or browser extension (collectively "SkinBox" or "the Service"), you confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years old, or of legal age in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher.
- You have read, understood, and agree to be legally bound by these Terms of Service, the Privacy Policy, the Refund Policy, and the Trade Safety Policy.
- You are not on any sanctions list and you are not accessing SkinBox from a jurisdiction where the trade of in-game items is unlawful.
- You own the Steam account you connect, and you have the authority to list, buy, and trade the items in it.
If you do not agree, you must not use SkinBox. Your only remedy is to stop using the Service and close your account.
2. What SkinBox is — and is not
SkinBox is a listing platform. We connect buyers and sellers of s&box cosmetic items via Steam's public trade system. We are not:
- A custodian of your skins. Items live in Steam, not on our servers.
- A bank, money service business, or broker-dealer.
- A party to any trade. Every trade is directly between two Steam users.
- Affiliated with Facepunch Studios or Valve Corporation.
- A tax advisor. You are responsible for declaring income from sales in your jurisdiction.
SkinBox provides: a listing UI, price history data, escrow for the cash side of a sale (via Stripe), a messaging system, and dispute-resolution tooling. That's all. Everything else is on you.
3. Prices, fees, and fluctuation
Skin prices on SkinBox are set by individual sellers. SkinBox does not guarantee any price, any discount, any "reference price", or any comparison to the Steam Community Market. Prices can change — or crash to zero — at any moment for reasons including but not limited to:
- Facepunch releasing a new drop that saturates supply.
- A cosmetic being removed from circulation, made free, or invalidated.
- A trading restriction or ban at the Steam level.
- Market manipulation, insider selling, or coordinated dumps.
- Bugs in price aggregation that temporarily display stale numbers.
SkinBox charges a 2% platform fee on sales and a 1.5% withdrawal fee on payouts. Deposit processor fees are set by Stripe and shown at checkout. All fees are final and non-refundable.
4. Your responsibility — and the losses we don't cover
You acknowledge and agree that SkinBox is not responsible for any loss of money, items, or data arising from any of the following, even if we knew or should have known about them:
- Price drops, market crashes, or a buyer never showing up.
- Steam trade holds, trade bans, Steam Guard delays, or Steam inventory outages.
- Scams you fall for — including but not limited to fake trade URLs, phishing sites, middle-man impersonators, counterfeit item swaps, API key theft, and social-engineering attacks.
- Wallet freezes, chargebacks, reversals, or payout delays imposed by Stripe, your bank, or any regulator.
- Downtime, bugs, data loss, or a listing that never appears because of a server outage or deploy.
- Administrative mistakes by you, including but not limited to: typing the wrong price, listing the wrong item, sending items to the wrong Steam account, or cancelling a confirmed purchase.
- Trade disputes between you and another user that we cannot verify via Steam's trade history.
- Tax, VAT, or customs liability on sales you make through SkinBox.
- Any event outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, DDoS attacks, infrastructure failures at AWS / Stripe / Steam, regulatory shutdowns, or bankruptcy of a counterparty.
You use SkinBox at your own risk. The entire risk as to the quality, safety, and continued operation of the Service is with you. If you are uncomfortable with this allocation of risk, do not use SkinBox.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SkinBox, its operators, employees, contractors, hosting providers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, lost profits, lost savings, lost data, lost items, lost goodwill, business interruption, or any similar damages, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), product liability, or any other legal theory, and whether or not SkinBox has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In any event, SkinBox's total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total platform fees paid by you to SkinBox in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars (USD $50.00).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
6. "As-is" and no warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, timely, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected. We do not warrant any third-party service, including Steam, Stripe, Facepunch, or any trading partner you meet through SkinBox.
7. Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including but not limited to:
- Suspected fraud, chargeback abuse, or money laundering.
- Violations of Steam's Subscriber Agreement or the Facepunch user terms.
- Threats, harassment, or abuse of other users or our staff.
- Using bots, scrapers, or automation to manipulate the marketplace.
- Legal or regulatory requirements in your jurisdiction.
On termination, any pending withdrawals may be frozen until we can verify there are no outstanding disputes. We are not required to provide a refund on termination, and we are not liable for losses caused by termination.
8. Prohibited activity
You must not, and must not attempt to:
- List items you do not own or have no authority to sell.
- Sell items obtained through account theft, fraud, or unauthorized API access.
- Use SkinBox to launder funds or circumvent sanctions.
- Manipulate prices via coordinated buy/sell, wash trades, or fake listings.
- Scrape SkinBox at a rate that impairs the Service for other users.
- Circumvent the rate limiter, the fee system, or any security control.
- Upload malware, exploits, or any content that would violate applicable law.
9. Intellectual property
The SkinBox name, logo, website, and source code are owned by the SkinBox operators. You may not copy, modify, resell, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without written permission. "s&box", "Steam", and "Rust" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here for descriptive and nominative fair-use purposes only.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will post the new version at this URL and update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Material changes will be notified by an in-app banner for at least seven (7) days. Your continued use of SkinBox after the effective date of a change constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction of SkinBox's principal operator, excluding conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by contacting [email protected] will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by a neutral arbitrator in that jurisdiction, except where prohibited by law. You waive your right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action.
12. Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the Terms will remain in full force and effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and Trade Safety Policy, form the entire agreement between you and SkinBox regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
